How to choose a right jointer V-ribbed drive belt

Since drive belts often lack markings—or if they do have them, the markings do not reflect the actual length—you need to take the following steps to select the correct ribbed drive belt for your planer, thicknesser, circular saw, compressor, etc.:

• Wrap a "mock-up" belt (using a non-stretching string, as shown in the photo) around both pulleys of your tool, ensuring it sits inside the grooves. If you have a helper, ask them to mark the point where the string overlaps with a fine-tip marker, then measure the length of the string between the marks precisely in millimeters. This measurement serves as the starting point for selecting the right belt.
• Measure the belt width (approximately) using calipers.
  
• Count the number of "ribs" (the longitudinal ridges on the belt or grooves on the pulleys).
  
• Measure the distance between the ribs (in some cases).

*If the belt is broken, measuring its length is not recommended, as the result often does not correspond to the actual length.
