Description
The new line of premium binoculars BD XD Prominar combines the best characteristics of Kowa binoculars. The main advantage of these binoculars is the compactness and minimal weight of their magnesium body with the highest image quality, which is provided by low-dispersion glasses XD Prominar. All optical surfaces have a full multi-layer enlightenment, and the prisms are covered with a proprietary phase-correcting and highly reflective dielectric coating C3 for crystal clarity of the image. An increased field of view and a minimum focusing distance of 1.5 m confirm the already outstanding optical characteristics. A special coating of the eyepieces and lenses Kowa KR coating reduces the risk of minor scratches and has water-repellent properties. The binocular body is waterproof and filled with dry nitrogen, which prevents fogging of the optics with sudden temperature changes. Durable, lightweight and stylish, the binoculars of the BD XD Prominar series are ideal for sports and tourism, as well as for hunting and observation in nature.
Prominar XD (Extra Low Dispersion) is a special grade of low dispersion optical glass developed by Kowa for binocular and spotting scope lenses. The refractive index of low dispersion glass depends little on the frequency of light (spectrum). All light waves are refracted at the same angle. The use of these glasses in the design of lenses allows to practically get rid of such an unpleasant aberration as chromatism. The cost of such glass is very high, which is why only manufacturers of high-tech optics use it in their premium products. Kowa rightly claims the superiority of Prominar XD over other types of low dispersion glass, which has been repeatedly confirmed by tests and expert opinions.
Kowa C3 Prism Coating - Kowa ROOF binoculars use Schmidt-Pechan prisms made of BAK-4 optical glass. Since one surface of the Pechan prism does not provide full reflection, Kowa
developed a coating with the highest reflectivity - "KowaC³". This allowed to obtain a reflection coefficient higher than other coatings that use silver or aluminum. Thus, the "KowaC³" coating has a reflection coefficient of 99% or more in the entire visible spectrum (from 400 to 700 nm).

Kowa Repelling ( KR ) Coating is a multifunctional coating specially developed for Kowa binoculars, which is applied to the outer sides of the lenses, preventing scratches and at the same time is hydrophobic. KR coating protects the lenses from any impact of water (rain, snow, fog, splashes or direct immersion), as well as from the accumulation of dirt dissolved in water. Simply shake the binoculars vigorously after use in wet conditions, and water droplets will be removed from the outer surface of the lenses. This coating is sufficiently hard and prevents accidental scratches from mechanical impact of low and medium force. This will allow the device to be used in more extreme conditions and at the same time maintain full functionality of the optics.
Phase Coating is a special phase-correcting coating that is applied to one of the surfaces of the prism inversion system in the form of the thinnest layers. The cost of such a coating is very high, and the application process requires precision accuracy, so only famous optics manufacturers can afford such technological complication. Phase correction is necessary exclusively for the Roof optical system, since, passing through such a prism, the light flux is decomposed into two parallel beams of light waves, an out-of-phase shift by half the length of the light wave occurs, which leads to a decrease in image resolution, as well as a decrease in contrast. Phase Coating corrects this shift. As a result, the image is as clear and contrasting as possible. Today, the design of a modern high-quality optical device of the Roof prism system is almost unthinkable without phase-correcting coating.

Waterproof - means that the optics are sealed with an O-ring and protected from moisture penetration according to the international class IPX7. Immersion in liquid for 30 minutes to a depth of 1 meter will not cause the slightest damage to the device and will not affect its functionality. Such optics are not afraid of any weather conditions.

Fogproof - means that the body is filled with dry nitrogen from the inside, which eliminates moisture condensation on the internal surfaces when the temperature changes. As a result, the optics do not fog up from the inside, and there is no corrosion of materials under the influence of moisture. Air is removed from the device and replaced with an inert gas (in this case, nitrogen N2), which does not contain water vapor and does not condense.
Due to its relatively low weight and hardness in alloys, magnesium is used in various industries with increased demands on performance characteristics. Binocular bodies made of magnesium alloy are currently considered the most reliable and high-quality and are distinguished by high-quality processing, which always has a positive effect on the appearance of the device and pleases the eye. Optics in such bodies will serve for the longest possible time.
