Description
Internal mechanism of the "Torpedo" type rear coaster brake hub assembly with sprocket, driving cone (driver), rollers, and bearing.
Commonly referred to as:
- Torpedo hub driving cone assembly with sprocket and rollers
- "Pyaterik" / Driver assembly for "Ukraine" rear hub
- Driver / Freewheel mechanism for HVZ Ukraine / Minsk rear hub
Driving cone (driver) for "Torpedo" rear coaster brake hub assembly with 19T sprocket and rollers (Ukraine / HVZ / Minsk)
Driving cone (driver) assembly for "Torpedo" type rear coaster brake hubs is the main working unit of the freewheel and pedal brake mechanism. The kit includes a driving cone with rollers, a bearing, a snap ring, and a pre-installed 19-tooth rear sprocket. Designed for the repair and full restoration of the rear wheel drive unit of classic road and folding bicycles.
Key Advantages and Features:
- Ready-to-install assembly kit: Includes all necessary elements (cone, rollers, caged bearing, retainer, and 19T sprocket) — no need to assemble the unit from individual parts.
- Brake and Drive Restoration: Replacing the unit eliminates pedal slipping (when rollers fail to engage the hub), brake lag, and unusual grinding noises.
- Hardened Steel: The working surfaces of the cone and rollers are heat-treated to prevent premature wear.
- Full Compatibility: Perfectly fits standard Soviet-style hubs and their modern counterparts.
Compatibility with Bicycles and Hubs:
- Hubs: Classic Torpedo-type coaster brake hubs, Velosteel, HVZ, ZIF, GAZ, Eagle, and equivalents.
- Bicycles: Ukraine, Aist, Minsk, Desna, Salyut, Sura, Ural, Kama, and other single-speed models.

Assembly Tip: When installing the new unit, liberally grease the bearing and rollers with thick grease (Lithol-24 or similar). This protects the mechanism from moisture and extends the life of the roller clutch.
The 19-tooth sprocket (as well as 16T, 18T, 21T with a 36 mm inner diameter and three slots) fits directly onto this driving cone.
Here is how it is secured to the unit:
-
Fitting: The sprocket is placed onto the protruding flange of the cone, aligning its three internal slots with the corresponding splines.
-
Securing: The snap ring (d33–35 mm) mentioned earlier is snapped into a special groove above the sprocket.
The cone holds the sprocket, and when pedaling forward, it transfers torque through the rollers to the wheel hub shell.
