Bicycle hub cone (drive cone for the classic Torpedo-type rear coaster brake hub used in road and city bicycles).
Main purpose of the part
This part is a key element of the wheel's loose ball bearing. It performs the following functions:
- Raceway: the smooth angled part serves as the inner support along which the bearing balls roll.
- Play adjustment: by screwing onto the axle, the cone allows for the adjustment of optimal bearing pressure for smooth wheel rotation without play or binding.
- Power transfer: special faces and lugs on the body interact with the internal hub mechanism, providing engagement during pedaling or braking.
- Dirt protection: the integrated metal dust cap (the wide ring at the base) protects the bearing assembly from dust, sand, and moisture.
