QP2-15H start relay kit for the start winding of Whirlpool refrigerator compressors and Prime Technics FS 801 M, FS 504 M freezers, protecting against overload and overheating
The QP2-15H start relay kit consists of two parts — a PTC thermistor (starting element) and a thermal relay (protection) — to perform separate functions:
- the PTC thermistor briefly supplies current to the start winding for startup
- the thermal relay shuts off the compressor during overloads or overheating, ensuring safety.
Why exactly 2 parts (components):
- Part 1: PTC Thermistor (QP2-15H). It has low resistance at room temperature, supplying current to the start winding. After the motor starts, the thermistor heats up from the current, its resistance increases sharply, and it practically disconnects the start winding.
- Part 2: Thermal Relay (protection) — Bimetallic plate. It protects the motor-compressor from overheating and high current.
If the compressor malfunctions, the plate heats up and opens the circuit, preventing the windings from burning out. This design allows the motor to be protected in case of jamming or voltage drops without disconnecting the starting device itself, by separating the start and protection functions.
