Description

PENTAX UP 8-16x21 Zoom is a compact multifunctional zoom binoculars from the Japanese manufacturer PENTAX, designed for observations in a wide variety of situations: during travel, hiking, attending sporting events and observing nature. Thanks to the variable magnification from 8x to 16x, the user gets the flexibility to choose the optimal zoom in real time without replacing the device. Aspherical lenses provide a sharp and clear image throughout the entire field of view, including the edges, which is a significant advantage over traditional spherical lenses. Multi-layered anti-reflective coatings on all optical surfaces significantly increase the brightness and contrast of the image even in difficult lighting conditions. BaK4 optical glass prisms guarantee maximum light transmission and a uniformly illuminated exit pupil without shadowing the edges. The ergonomic rotary mechanism for changing the magnification allows you to quickly switch between 8x and 16x with one hand, without looking up from observation. Despite the extended magnification range, the binoculars weigh only 310g, making them the perfect companion for any trip.

For over a century, the Pentax name has been synonymous with Japanese optical precision—the company, founded in 1919, has pioneered 35mm SLR cameras since 1957, and its optical designs are now found in leading NASA research centers and observatories around the world. In the sports optics segment, Pentax has transferred its century-old engineering school to binoculars and spotting scopes that combine proprietary ED glass, unique designs like the Papilio II with a record-breaking close focus of 50 cm, and the classic reliability of "Japanese craftsmanship." When you choose Pentax, you choose optics with a compelling heritage that has stood the test of time and generations of users.

Features

  • Zoom function with adjustment via the central wheel - the magnification range from 8x to 16x is adjusted by smoothly turning the central focusing wheel, which combines the zoom and focus functions. This design allows you to control the magnification with one hand without taking your eyes off the eyepiece. The zoom range of 8-16x provides flexibility: 8x is suitable for wide viewing and orientation, and 16x is for detailed study of distant objects. This effectively replaces two separate fixed magnification instruments, providing maximum versatility.
  • Compact form factor and low weight - with dimensions of 111×111×55 mm and a weight of only 310 g, the binoculars are one of the most portable devices in their class. The small dimensions allow you to place them in a jacket pocket, belt bag or compact compartment of a backpack. Despite the small size, the design does not sacrifice optical characteristics thanks to an efficient optical scheme. For long hiking routes, tourist trips and tactical use, low weight is a critically important advantage.
  • The objective lens diameter is 21 mm and the exit pupil is 2.6–1.3 mm — the aperture of the objective lens is 21 mm, which determines the amount of light that the device collects to form an image. The exit pupil — the diameter of the light beam at the eyepiece exit — is 2.6 mm at 8x and 1.3 mm at 16x, which corresponds to daytime observation conditions. The human eye has a pupil of 2–3 mm during the day, so a value of 2.6 mm at minimum magnification ensures optimal use of the collected light. When the zoom increases to 16x, the brightness of the image naturally decreases, so the device is most effective at moderate magnifications during the day.
